How our RGN’s and RMN’s operate

3 minute read

Here at HG Group, we support all types of nursing specialities. Understanding the difference between these roles and how they operate is important. We have had a rise in RGN and RMN staff working for us, thus we will be covering those roles in this post.

Registered General Nurses (RGN) are responsible for providing care to patients. RGNs have a wide range of knowledge concerning the different types of conditions that require certain aspects of care. As an RGN, you can work in various locations such as hospitals, community care, and clinics. Here in the UK, RGNs will undergo a general nursing degree which covers aspects of medicine, pharmacology, and general patient care. The day-to-day duties of an RGN are to manage acute and serious health conditions, provide medication, care for wounds and monitor physical health.

Registered Mental Health Nurses (RMN) focuses on the mental health aspect of patients. These nurses are trained to provide support for those who suffer from mental health illnesses such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders. To become qualified, you must complete a nursing degree that specialises in mental health nursing. As an RGN you will focus your work on places such as mental health units, rehabilitation centres and psychiatric hospitals. The work that RMNs manage daily includes counselling, medication prescribing related to specific mental health, therapy and more.

Seeking a career in nursing can not only impact the lives of those you care for but also impact your lifestyle. Nursing is an incredibly rewarding job. With your compassionate care and careful aid, you will witness the recovery of your patients. Nursing in either of these areas will help with your personal development and can give you a deep sense of purpose in your work. Being a part of the ever-evolving nursing field opens you up to opportunities for continuous learning. This is due to new illnesses arising and ongoing research being conducted to find new treatments as well as new techniques and technology used in caring for individuals who need you.

Registering as an RGN or an RMN with HG Group means that you can work closely with one of our talented consultants who exclusively focus on placing you into your dream position.  We at HG Group also consider the culture of the workplace we are placing you in and work to make sure that your visions align with the hospital and organisation that we want to send you to work for. Working with us can help you develop your career further and allow you to be placed in positions that may have been out of reach before.
